It propagates via thick, tuber-like rhizomes; while these can be planted at any time, spring is the optimal season. It requires soil that is sunny, light, rich in organic matter, sheltered from the wind, and not overly cold. It blooms for most of the year—from October through January—as it requires a dormancy period of at least two months. It should be grown in areas sheltered from cold northerly winds in northern Greece, and in semi-shaded locations in the south.
